Tanzania giants Simba Sports Club suffered a painful elimination from the CAF Champions League after losing 4-3 on penalties to Wydad Casablanca on Friday night.
The Msimbazi Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat in the second leg in Morocco , and the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
Simba dominated the match but they failed to give themselves the two-goal cushion they needed to advance, with the visitors even coming close to scoring two more goals through Bouly Sambou and Yahya Jabarne in the second half.
The two sides had to settle for a nerve-wracking shootout that saw Shomari Kapombe and Clatous Chama miss their attempts to send the Moroccans to the semifinals of the competition.
The first shot of the game came off Kibu Prosper in the seventh minute but the winger fired his effort wide off target.

Wydad’s first real opportunity came after the ninth minute when Simba goalkeeper Ally Khatoro made a save from Arsene Kiaku, who had done well to bypass the defense and put himself into a shooting position.
But the former TP Mazembe striker failed to get any real power behind his shot and Khatoro punched the ball for an unfruitful corner.
Simba were under siege and Wydad went ahead in the 24th minute when unmarked Bouly Soumbou who easily scored with a close-range header from Jalal Daoudi delivery.

Harambee Stars defender Joash Onyango clocked 90 minutes in the African Champions League clash.
Sadio Kanoute came close in the 29th minute with a shot from a distance but Youssef El Motie managed to tip the striker’s effort over the bar.
The second half started with Yayha Allah nearly doubling Wydad’s lead as the winger tried to catch Ally Khatoro off his line but the winger's lobbied effort sailed over the bar.
Kibu Prosper tried his luck from range five minutes later but Simba's marksman fired his effort over the bar.
Clatous Chama came close to equalizing for Simba in the 70th minute but the midfielder’s deflected effort went just wide of the right of the post.
Wydad came close to adding their second in the 86th minute when Zouhair El Moutaraji flew to meet Hocine Benayads' long throw but his header hit the side netting.

Simba created a number of decent chances as well but did not do enough to trouble the Wydad defense.
