The former Yanga goalkeeper joined the team during the mid-season transfer window on a free transfer.

Kakamega Homeboyz custodian Farouk Shikalo is itching to raise the Kenyan flag high in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after helping lift the FKF Cup following a 1-0 win over Tusker.

Shikalo, who joined the club as a free agent having left Tanzanian outfit Mtibwa Sugar told Pulse Sports that although it is not easy to gel into a team in the middle of a season, he had adapted quickly, which made Homeboyz write history.

“I want to thank God because it is not easy joining in the middle of the season and gelling with the team,” he said. “I may not have achieved what I ideally wanted but I at least got what I wanted,” he added.

“I wanted to ideally win both the league and cup, but I am grateful to at least have won the cup.”

Homeboyz won the cup arguably against all the odds, slaying giants like Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and Tusker to lift their maiden title and qualify for their first-ever continental competition.

Shikalo says that he will help his side do everything in his power to go as far as possible in their maiden competition, suggesting it will be part of “raising the Kenyan flag high”.

“Everyone viewed us as underdogs. No one expected us to get to where we reached. God gifted us this cup. We will do everything possible to go as far as we can because we will be lifting and raising the Kenyan flag high.”

Homeboyz will be beefing up the squad with experienced players who will aid the side in their quest to help them continue upsetting the odds in their continental campaign next season.
