After a challenging start to their second FKFPL season, Shabana FC experienced ups and downs, marked by changes, growth and renewed ambitions.

Often regarded as a sleeping giant in Kenyan football, Shabana FC's return to the top flight has been a journey of grit and ambition.

Their 2023/2024 season, marking their second stint in the FKF Premier League, concluded with a 14th-place finish, narrowly avoiding relegation.

The conclusion of the 2023/2024 season saw Shabana narrowly avoiding relegation, finishing 14th in the FKF Premier League.

This outcome was a reflection of the team's perseverance, especially under the guidance of head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, who took over mid-season to steer the club away from the drop zone.

In August 2024, a significant milestone was achieved when leading gaming firm SportPesa announced a Ksh75 million sponsorship deal spanning three seasons.

This partnership was poised to provide financial stability and resources essential for the club's development.

The club's home ground, Gusii Stadium, underwent renovations to meet league standards, with Kisii Governor and club patron Simba Arati confirming its readiness for the season.

As the 2024/2025 season commenced, expectations were cautiously optimistic.

Pamzo emphasized the importance of a strong start, aiming to build on the previous season's hard-fought survival.

"We have prepared well for the season opener, but concede we have room for improvement to reach the level we want,” he stated.

However, the season's onset was challenging. Shabana struggled to find their footing, with early matches yielding disappointing results.

A series of draws and losses placed the team perilously close to the relegation zone, mirroring the previous season's struggles. The pressure mounted on Coach Omollo and his technical bench to reverse the team's fortunes.

In a surprising turn of events, Pamzo parted ways with Shabana  in October 2024. The Glamour Boyz  management cited a need for new direction to achieve their objectives. Chairman Elizaphan Kerama commented on the decision.

"We appreciate Coach Omollo's efforts in stabilizing the team last season, but recent results have necessitated a change to meet our ambitions,” he said.

Following Omollo's departure, Shabana FC appointed Peter Okidi  as the new head coach.

Okidi, known for his tactical acumen, was tasked with revitalizing the squad and steering them away from the relegation mire.

His tenure began with a renewed sense of purpose, and the team's performance showed signs of improvement.

Long-time supporter, James Mugeni, expressed cautious optimism with the technical bench.

"We've seen some positive changes since the new coach took over. The players seem more motivated, and the recent results give us hope that we can climb up the table” he said.

Despite the managerial changes and initial setbacks, Shabana’s  fan base remained steadfast.

The supporters, often referred to as the 12th man, continued to rally behind the team, filling stadiums and creating an electrifying atmosphere during matches.

As the season progressed, Shabana's form showed a marked improvement. The team climbed to ninth place in the league standings, a position that, while still precarious, reflected their determination to remain in the top flight.

Coach Okidi's emphasis on disciplined defending and quick transitions began to yield results, with the team conceding fewer goals and posing a greater threat on the counter-attack.

Looking ahead, Shabana aims to build on the momentum gained in the latter part of the season. The focus remains on securing their status in the FKF Premier League and laying a solid foundation for future success.

The club's hierarchy has expressed commitment to investing in youth development and infrastructure, recognizing that sustainable growth is key to returning to the glory days of Kenyan football.
