Omuri played a key role in helping Rising Stars seal qualification to the 2025 U-20 AFCON.
Shabana’s Dalphine Omuri has reflected on his experience at the concluded CECAFA U-20 AFCON qualifiers, which saw Kenya’s Rising Stars qualify for the U-20 AFCON tournament for the first time since 1972.
Omuri, frequently utilised as an impact substitute by head coach Salim Babu, played a key role in energising Kenya’s play, pushing them through to the final, where they were narrowly defeated 2-1 by hosts Tanzania.
While the loss in the final was disheartening, Omuri takes pride in the team’s historic achievement of qualifying for next year’s tournament in March.

Aldrine Kibet: Rising Stars can win U20 AFCON & qualify for World Cup if one thing happens
Aldrine Kibet has made a bold promise to Kenyan fans on what Rising Stars aim at achieving at the 2025 U-20 AFCON only if they are granted their wishes.
A major strength behind the Rising Stars’ success has been the unity among the squad. Eleven players from this year’s qualifiers had previously reached the final of the U-18 CECAFA Championships in Kisumu and Kakamega last December, an experience that has only strengthened their bond. Omuri praised the close-knit nature of the team:
“We’ve been together for a long time. Some players may be abroad, but when they return, we only need a short time to train and gel again. The team spirit is incredible; we support each other through tough times. There’s real camaraderie in this squad.”
He also credited the leadership style of head coach Salim Babu, describing his hands-on approach as a key factor in maintaining a positive environment:
“The coach gives us that extra push. It’s very impressive to work with someone who understands and motivates us the way he does.”
As Omuri and his teammates prepare for AFCON next year, their historic qualification marks a new chapter for Kenyan youth football, one fuelled by collective effort, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to lifting the nation’s footballing profile on the continental stage.
