Shabana FC have filed an official protest to FKF over controversial officiating in the FKF Cup loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, demanding a review and potential replay.

Shabana FC has officially filed a protest with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following their FKF Cup Round of 16 clash against Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday, April 13.

The match saw Shabana FC lose 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz but Tore Bobe believe that the match was poorly officiated.

In a letter addressed to the FKF Head of Leagues and Competitions, Shabana FC expressed their frustration and disappointment over the controversial decisions made by the match officials.

They highlighted the disallowing of a last-minute equalising goal scored by Dennis Okoth, noting that the match was surrounded by one-sided decisions from the officiating team.

Shabana FC further stated that their fans, players and officials pointed out that Sunday’s events had been widely described as a daytime robbery.

“The decision to cancel the goal was not only unjustified but also deeply frustrating, as both video evidence and eyewitness accounts confirm it was a clear goal,” read the statement in part.

“If this kind of officiating is allowed to continue, we risk turning our football matches into which clubs have invested heavily in time, money, and talent into battlegrounds.

“The credibility of the game is at stake, and if not urgently addressed, we could easily lose control of the sport we all love. We cannot and should not tolerate a situation where venues become war zones simply because of poor officiating.”

The high-stakes round-of-16 fixture saw Shabana battling Kakamega Homeboyz for a place in the quarter-finals of the FKF Cup.

In the dying moments of the match, Dennis Okoth found the back of the net with what appeared to be a legitimate goal, only for it to be disallowed by the officiating team.

According to Shabana, both video replays confirmed the legitimacy of the goal, and the decision to disallow the goal sparked outrage among Shabana players, officials, and supporters.

Shabana FC has since made four key demands, firstly requesting an immediate and transparent review of the officiating during the match, focusing on the disallowed goal.

Shabana also demanded that disciplinary action should be taken against the match officials if found guilty of negligence or bias and there should be a formal assurance from FKF on the steps being taken to restore trust in officiating across competitions.

Shabana FC also demanded that there should be a replay of the match, citing that the final result was fundamentally altered by poor officiating.

The club emphasised that such officiating sets a dangerous precedent and should not be accepted anywhere in the game.

For now, Shabana FC and their supporters await a response, hopeful that their concerns will be addressed with the seriousness they believe the situation demands.
