Tore Bobe made light work of their rivals to collect maximum points and pip Murang’a Seal to the second-tier title
Shabana FC have been crowned champions in the second tier National Super League following a 2-0 victory over Kisumu All Stars at a packed Gusii Stadium on Saturday.
Nehemiah ‘Neymar’ Onchiri scored both goals in the second half to hand Tore Bobe the title as they return to the Premier League in emphatic style.
Shabana’s celebration were put on hold when Murang’a Seal beat them 2-1 at St Sebastian Park last weekend, making the final game a must-win for Sammy Okoth’s men, but they responded in style in front of their supporters
Heading into the match, Shabana were top of the table with 70 points with Murang’a just two points behind ahead of their clash against Gusii United in Awendo but with the game’s kick off delaying, their rivals ensured there will be not much waiting as they did their job.
Kisumu All Stars held Shabana to a goalless first half but there were no such troubles in the second stanza as the home side came from the break more rejuvenated with Onchiri breaking the deadlock with a thunderous strike after 52 minutes before he sealed all the points in the 84th minute.
Captain Bernard Otieno and top striker Peter Ongechi also made life difficult for All Stars with their incisive passing and runs in the box although not lucky to get on the scoresheet.
The win maintained Shabana’s formidable home record as they have only lost once at Gusii Stadium, a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Gusii United in February.
Okoth’s men finished the season with 73 points from 23 wins, four draws and five defeats, having scored 54 goals while conceding just 14, the best in the division.
Shabana had ended their 17-year stay in the wilderness when they secured promotion back to the top flight with four matches to spare last month.
