Shabana Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama feels supporters should be happy with a point against Kenya Police given their experience and big spending.

Shabana FC Secretary General Dr Elizaphan Kerama feels the club’s supporters should be content with the team’s 1-1 draw against big-spending Kenya Police FC in their FKF Premier League clash on Saturday.

Shabana yet again let a lead slip at the last minute when they drew 1-1 with Kenya Police at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay to stay without a win in their opening three league matches.

Peter Ogechi gave Tore Bobe an 87th minute lead but it lasted just two minutes as Clinton Kinanga equalised for the Law Enforcers to force the 1-1 draw.

It is a result that left Shabana fans disappointed, having seen their team fail to capitalise on their slim advantage for a third straight time since their return to the top-flight but Kerama has urged supporters to look at the positives, terming Police ‘lucky’ to have walked away with a point.

“The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, the officers just escaped defeat by luck. To our team, this is a result worth celebrating considering our opponents’ reputation for having not only experienced players but also the most expensive players in the league,” said Kerama.

“It is evident that as a team, we are steadily progressing and establishing a well-organised stability within our playing unit.

“This result serves as testament to our commitment to excellence on the field. We are confident in our journey to become one of the best teams not only in the Kenyan Premier League but also in our region.

“Only time will reveal the full extent of our potential and we eagerly await the opportunity to prove ourselves.”

Shabana are finding life tough in the top flight after 17 years in the lower leagues but have given a good account of themselves as they are yet to concede a big number of goals as many had feared.

Tore Bobe were close to securing a point in their league opener but conceded a late goal to lose 1-0 to Murang’a Seal before letting a 1-0 lead slip to draw 1-1 with FC Talanta in their second match of the season.

Coach Sammy Okoth has previously blamed a lack of finishing and concentration for their woes and it seems his message is yet to hit home. Shabana host Kariobangi Sharks in their next league match on September 23.
