Seat installation is now at 99 percent as Kasarani Stadium makes strides towards CHAN 2024 readiness.

The ongoing renovations at Kasarani Stadium ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) are progressing remarkably, with seat installation now 99% complete.

The arena, which was closed for renovations in December 2023, remains a focal point of discussion, with infrastructure upgrades continuing at a steady pace.

A video posted by Jacks Connect YouTube channel reveals that nearly all seating in the ground has been installed, with the VIP section nearing its final stages.

Unlike the general seating, which features grey-colored seats, the VIP section stands out with its red seats. The first part of the VIP area, adjacent to the general stands, is equipped with foldable seats to align with CAF standards.

The second VIP segment boasts more luxurious seating, featuring cushioned, foldable seats with armrests, providing an enhanced experience for high-paying spectators. The spacious arrangement ensures a premium ambiance suitable for distinguished guests.

Additionally, the fourth section—the Presidential area—remains under preparation. This high-security section, enclosed with bulletproof glass, is expected to accommodate Kenya’s President, top CAF officials, and other esteemed guests.

Beyond seating, other renovation efforts are in progress. Scoreboard screens and sound systems are yet to be installed, with ongoing wiring work aimed at completing these crucial elements.

A new lift has been added to enhance accessibility, complemented by an external spiral ramp designed to ease fan movement and accommodate disabled supporters attending the tournament.

The roofing canopy remains partially incomplete, with CAF’s inspection in February estimating it at only 25% finished.

However, Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum remains optimistic, asserting that Kasarani will be ready to host CHAN by August.

Meanwhile, the construction of Talanta Sports City, set to become Kenya’s newest sporting facility, is also progressing.

With a planned capacity of 60,000 seats, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the stadium by the end of the year. Currently, the project stands at 40% completion, promising to redefine Kenya’s sporting infrastructure upon its launch.

With crucial renovations in their final stages, Kasarani Stadium is on track to meet its April deadline for phase two completion, ensuring readiness for the prestigious CHAN tournament.

Meanwhile, CAF has already given a preliminary green light to Nyayo National Stadium, as evidenced by its approval for hosting the Kenya vs. Uganda U17 match last Sunday, a game Junior Starlets won 3-0. However, a final inspection is still pending, with work still to be done on the scoreboard screen.

However, there is optimism the stadium will be used when Harambee Stars face Gabon at home on Sunday in what will be Benni McCarthy's second game in charge of the national team.
