The win now means Shanderema will be part of three teams that will represent Kenya at the East Africa School games in Rwanda from August 17-27.

Shanderema Boys have booked the first of three Kenyan slots at the East African School games scheduled to take place in Rwanda later this month following a resounding 5-1 win over Agoro Sare in a football match played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday morning.

Both sides came into the match having lost their respective semi-final clashes on Friday. Sare, who are debutants at the national stage, were eliminated 3-0 by Dagoretti on penalties, while favourites Shaderema were upstaged by St Anthony's Boys Kitale.

Shanderema were, therefore, understandably nursing their wounds from missing out on the chance to lift the title by qualifying for the bigger incentive, the East African games.

Shanderema were the superior side from the get go, dominating proceedings and forcing Agoro Sare into making mistakes, and in the 20th minute, went ahead through Collins Kati, who dribbled past the Agoro left-back down the right flank before his cross-cum-shot was deflected in to give the favourites the lead.

In the 30th minute, Agoro’s morning would go from bad to worse as they were two goals down after a well-constructed move resulted in a ferocious shot being hit past their keeper’s near post.

Kati, who was having a field day, would score his second of the day just before halftime when he tore down the right flank at pace before tucking home the ball to put them 3-0 up with 40 minutes played.

Sare would, however, reduce the deficit just before the break after a well-taken set-piece, to give them something worth fighting for in the second half.

However, they just could not get going, and they gave away a penalty after being hit on the break yet again, before the Agoro right-back made a clumsy challenge on Shanderema’s left winger inside the box after he failed to match him for pace, 13 minutes into the second half.

However, the penalty was unsuccessful, but four minutes later, they would be up 4-1 anyway, after Kati hit a cross towards Elly Malala who headed the ball unmarked into the back of the net.

Maxwell Wamalwa would then hit the final nail in Sare’s coffin after a smart set piece that had clearly been well practiced on the training ground proved successful.

The win now means Shanderema will be part of three teams that will represent Kenya at the East Africa School games scheduled to take place in Rwanda from August 17-27.
