Bbaale, won the league’s Player of the Month accolade for April on Thursday, but watched on helplessly at home as Vipers picked up a crucial draw to go top of the league albeit on goal difference.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League is heating up, and SC Villa's Charles Bbaale is confident his team still has a chance to win the title despite stiff competition from Vipers and KCCA.
Bbaale, won the league’s Player of the Month accolade for April on Thursday, but watched on helplessly at home as Vipers picked up a crucial draw to go top of the league albeit on goal difference.
"We have three games to go,” he said, adding; “There was a situation where we won five games consecutively.”
“I believe we can win all remaining games and maybe have a chance to win the title depending on how our opponents will compete," Bbaale added.
SC Villa is joint top of the league with Vipers on 46 points, and are one point above KCCA. However, they have played one game more than their opponents.
The Venoms made use of their game in hand to pick up what could be a crucial point on the road at the Green Light Stadium in Arua against the Caterpillars.
KCCA will have the chance to go two points clear of the two if they can win their derby against Express FC on Saturday.
Bbaale has been a key player for SC Villa this season, scoring 10 goals, just one shy of the league's top scorer, Fred Amaku, despite primarily playing as a support striker behind Seif Batte and on the wings.
Bbaale scored five goals in the five games he featured for SC Villa in April, winning the accolade ahead of Arua Hill's Innocent Media and Wakiso Giant's Shariph Kimbowa.
He also won SC Villa nine points out of the possible 15; “I am very happy to have won the Pilsner Player of the Month award for April.”
“It's a great achievement, and I give credit to my teammates and the technical team for this milestone," said Bbaale.
Express FC coach James Odoch was named the best coach for April. He led the Red Eagles to two wins and two draws in the four games they played in April.
Odoch won the accolade ahead of SC Villa's tactician Magera, who had earlier won the previous award, and Vipers' Alex Isabirye.
Odoch credited his technical team members and players for this milestone.
With three games to go, the race for the Uganda Premier League title is becoming more intense. The Jogoo face a trip to Bombo to play UPDF next, followed by homegames against relegation bound Blacks Power and URA FC.
Vipers will have to collect maximum points against Express FC and eighth placed BUL FC in Jinja before their season climaxes with a home tie against Busoga United.
Meanwhile, KCCA faces BUL in their only remaining home match of the season, before back to back trips to Busoga United in Jinja and Bright Stars – who eliminated them from the Uganda Cup – at Kavumba.
