The Liverpool man was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialize.

Saudi Pro League Director of Football, Michael Emenalo has confirmed that a team in the league was looking to secure the services of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window.

The Egyptian was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but eventually stayed with the Reds due to what Emenalo has now revealed as the Reds’ reluctancy to sell.

The former Chelsea Technical Director has opened up about the deal falling through and clarified that if a move was to happen in the future, then it would be upon Salah agreeing to join the league.

“I think it depends on Mo you know,” said Emenalo on the Obi One Podcast when queried by Chelsea legend and host Obi Mikel on the feasibility of the Reds’ star joining the Saudi Pro League.

“I think the stories that one of our teams went after him is true.  There was interest but just like the whole Victor Osimhen thing it also hinges around it's okay for me to have an interest in signing Mo but also his Club have to have an interest in letting him go. And if those two things don’t align then you don’t have a deal.”

Emenalo has pointed out that the Merseyside based team and the Egyptian were not ready to part ways.

“I think it was fundamentally that Liverpool didn’t want to sell and at what price are we willing to buy because we also don't want to buy at a ridiculous amount. So, I think ultimately it came down the third party which is the most important part and that is whether the player is ready to come and I didn't feel that the player was ready to come because he felt like he had unfinished business,” he expressed.

The Nigerian has however not ruled out the possibility of the Anfield legend joining the Middle-Eastern league when his contract expires.

“I don’t manage any of the clubs but if they decided they are interested then anything is possible. He is a top player.”

According to Goal.com, Salah revealed after scoring in Liverpool's 3-0 win at Manchester United just before the international break that nobody from the club has even spoken to him about a new contract.

"Honestly, I had a good summer, I had a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know it's my last year in the club. I just want to enjoy it and I don't want to think about it. I feel I'm free to play football and we'll see what's going to happen next year," said Salah at the time.

The Egyptian whose contract with the Reds runs out at the end of this season has scored 216 goals in 357 games since joining the side in 2017, winning a league title, a Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, Emirates FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Carabao Cup and FA Community Shield.
