Whether his blunder will cost him his place in future engagements remains a topic of debate, with Lukwago, Nafian Alionzi and Ismail Watenga as some of Uganda’s other options.
Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola has come out to take responsibility for his part in the team’s 2-1 loss to Algeria on Sunday.
The custodian was at fault for Algeria’s first goal after he cheaply gave away possession and fumbled a long-range effort that Mohamed Amoura then slotted in the 43rd minute of the game.
He posted: “What a great spirit from the guys. Unfortunately, it was one of those days that Allah had planned to be me. I take full responsibility to grow from the game each time we fall coz (because) Allah tests us from what we do or love most. Alhumdullilah.”

AFCON 2023Q Amoura scores brace as Algeria dent Cranes' chances
Mohamed Amoura scored a brace for the Desert Foxes in either half, while Fahad Bayo’s goal in the 89th minute was too little too late.
Besides the howler, Magoola did relatively well in the second half but could not stop Algeria from going 2-0 up after a well-executed counterattack.
The former KCCA FC custodian has been between the sticks the last couple of games and has overtaken Charles Lukwago in the pecking order.
Whether his blunder will cost him his place in future engagements remains a topic of debate, with Lukwago, Nafian Alionzi and Ismail Watenga as some of Uganda’s other options.
Fahad Bayo got one back for the Cranes in the 89th minute, but the damage had been done.
With Tanzania defeating Niger 1-0 in the other Group F match, Uganda now find themselves in a spot of bother, three points behind the Taifa Stars.
