Ryan Ogam: Tusker provide worrying update over FKF Premier League top scorer

Tusker FC have suffered a setback regarding top scorer Ryan Ogam in what is a blow to their FKF Premier League title aspirations.

Tusker FC will have to wait even longer to have top scorer Ryan Ogam back in action at a crucial time of the season.

The striker has been absent since Tusker’s 1-1 draw against Shabana on February 26 and it was hoped that he would be back in time for their match against Posta Rangers just before the international break.

Ogam sustained an injury which had kept him out of action although he made himself available for Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy and even attended training sessions ahead of Kenya’s World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Gabon.

However, any chances of having him back soon have gone up in smoke as he has undergone surgery on his knee.

“Wishing a quick recovery to our top scorer Ryan Wesley Ogam who has undergone a minor procedure for a meniscus tear. Quick recovery Rayo, we can’t wait to have you back,” Tusker posted on social media, accompanying the post with a photo of the striker on a hospital bed.

The news is a blow to coach Charles Okere who has been without his talisman for their last three matches and will have to wait even longer to have him back with nine games remaining before the season concludes.

Ogam has been instrumental in Tusker’s title charge, netting 15 league goals in the FKF Premier League, to become the leading scorer so far.

His absence will, however, be greatly felt as Tusker, who have 47 points from 25 games, are just one point behind leaders Kenya Police in what is a tight title race.

Okere’s men have so far coped well without Ogam, winning two and drawing one of their last three games, and will hope that his absence does not slow their charge.

A meniscus tear can take from four to six weeks to recover from and that could be the difference between Tusker winning the league and losing it.
