The Super Eagles vice-captain has sent out an important message as Nigeria hope to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track.

Nigeria’s men’s national team assistant captain William Troost-Ekong cannot wait to get to work as the Super Eagles play two World Cup qualifying games on Friday and Monday.

The three-time African champions are back in action this week as they resume their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria face Rwanda on Friday at Amahoro Stadium before hosting the Mighty Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium next Monday.

The two games are vital to the Super Eagles' hopes of playing in next year's World Cup as anything other than six points could signal the end of their dream.

Nonetheless, Ekong is not fazed about the daunting prospect the Super Eagles face in their next two games. The Al-Kholood Club star, who was one of the nine players who arrived in camp on Tuesday morning, dropped an update on his X account, formerly known as Twitter.

Ekong is expected to lead the Super Eagles out in the absence of Ahmed Musa, with the former Watford man likely to partner with Calvin Bassey at the back.

Eric Chelle’s men are yet to win a single game in four matches, playing three draws and losing one game.

However, depending on other results, Nigeria could go top at the end of the window should they win the games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
