Bolt, a sprint GOAT himself, knows what it takes to achieve such status in a sport.

A devout football fan when he is off the track, Bolt is an avid Manchester United fan, and the former United forward is his favourite player.

In a previous interview with Complex UK, the double-world record holder was asked to list his top three all-time footballers, and it did not go well for the Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

"I'm just gonna keep it simple. I think Pele and Maradona, my favorite footballer is Cristiano Ronaldo. So those are my top three," said Bolt.

When asked why he picked Ronaldo over Messi, Bolt simply stated, "It's Cristiano Ronaldo."

Bolt's answer sheds light on a divisive debate that has gone on for the better part of over a decade, with both players putting up numbers that warrant their claim to the GOAT status.

Messi's eight Ballon d'Ors to Ronaldo’s five and World Cup give him a strong case for the claim, while Ronaldo's all-time leading goal scorer claim, five Champions League trophies, and a UEFA Nations League trophy make his case.

However, the debate often comes down to preference since the two greats have accolades to back their claim.
