Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted after Rasmus Hojlund copied his iconic celebration during Denmark’s 1-0 win over Portugal in the Nations League quarterfinal first leg.
The match, played at Parken Stadium on Thursday, was decided in the 78th minute when Hojlund scored the only goal. His strike helped Denmark take the lead in the tie, after Christian Eriksen had missed a first-half penalty.
After the game, Hojlund explained that his celebration was not meant as an insult. "I was playing against my idol, the best footballer in the world, and scoring the winning goal was an unbelievable moment," he told TV2.
"It was for him, not to mock him. Ronaldo has been a huge inspiration in my football career. It’s a strange feeling to score against him and Portugal, but it’s a big moment for me. I watched him score a free kick in 2009, and I’ve been a fan ever since."

With Portugal trailing by one goal, they must win the second leg in Lisbon on Sunday to qualify for the semi-finals. Ronaldo, however, remains confident in his team’s chances.
"We have 90 minutes to turn this around," he wrote on Instagram in Portuguese. Sending a strong message ahead of the decisive match, he added: "Roll on Portugal!"
It is not the first time a player has mimicked Ronaldo’s celebration in front of him, and most of them have gone ahead to acknowledge it was out of respect rather than mockery.
The ‘Sui’ celebration has grown to be one of the most iconic celebrations in football history.
