Roma vs AC Milan: Ex-Chelsea man Abraham strikes as Saelemaekers denies Mourinho’s men

Former Chelsea striker Abraham appeared to have put Mourinho’s AS Roma in the driving seat, but a lapse in concentration allowed AC Milan to snatch a late point.

Former Chelsea star Tammy Abraham scored what looked like the winner, but Alexis Saelemaekers’ late equaliser snatched a late point for AC Milan in their Serie A clash against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

The match lacked any real excitement until the final minutes of the game, but it was a case of deja vu for both teams as they shared the spoils

How it happened

Roma manager Mourinho was forced to make a few changes to his side, with both Chris Smalling and Diego Llorente missing out due to injuries, while Paulo Dybala was on the bench.

Nonetheless, the Yellow and Reds started the game brightly, shading the early possession and staying compact at the back.

But despite a having majority of the possession, Mourinho’s men failed to create clear-cut chances in the opening stages.

With Roma failing to use their early dominance, AC Milan settled in the game, having their spell of possession too.

However, Stefano Pioli’s men were also unable to break down a well-organised Roma defence, except for a few half chances.

The best chance of the half fell to Roma, but Lorenzo Pellegrini’s goalbound effort was blocked by his teammate Abraham.

Abraham and Saelemaekers spark late drama

The second half kicked off with both teams cautious, as neither side did not want to get caught on the break.

Milan did have a lot of the ball, though, with Rafael Leao causing problems for Zeki Celik on the left.

However, despite Leao’s threat, AC Milan could not fashion out an opener as Roma were resolute in defence.

It looked like the game was heading for a draw until Abraham finished off a counter-attack move in added time.

But there was to be more late drama as Roma switched off in the fifth minute of added, allowing Saelemaekers to stab home past Rui Patricio.

The Belgian’s strike turned out to be the last chance of the game as both teams were forced to share the spoils just as they did in the reverse fixture.

It means both teams remain level on points and goal difference, with Milan sitting in fourth, having scored more goals than Mourinho’s men.
