Furious Tusker fans nearly attacked head coach Robert Matano after his charges lost 1-0 to Shabana in an FKFPL  clash played at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Tusker lost their second game of the season to Shabana at Kasarani in a game where Tore Bobe fans made the atmosphere intimidating for the Brewers, and made them not play with their usual ruthless groove.

The 12-time league champions did not even produce one shot on target, and their second loss puts them in a difficult situation as they are playing catch up to league leaders Posta Rangers after six games played.

A number of Brewers fans confronted Matano as he was leaving the player entrance zone, hurling shouts to the extent that ‘the lion’ momentarily struggled to even utter a word.

In the first half of the video shot by Sports Eye Sports,  a fan is seen calming things down to allow the coach to speak afterwards, which forces Matano into giving an explanation.

“We have lost the game and everyone feels hurt,” Matano begins. “And you all know that I am a winner myself,” he continues.

“But we have lost. Let us forget that one. I have talked to the players. Whoever does not work hard will stay away.

“You cannot get to the comfort zone and expect that the coach will come and play for you. How many chances did we even get?” Matano asks.

“None!” The fans respond in unison.

“You saw that a mistake occurred. And I have decided ! Let us leave it at that,” Matano says before walking away.

The defeat has intensified scrutiny on Matano, particularly after a significant clearout in the pre-season, which saw the exclusion of several senior players, including former skipper Humphrey Mieno.

The restructuring of the squad raised eyebrows among the Tusker faithful, and Matano's ability to integrate new players seamlessly is now under the microscope.
