Next Sunday, the Pride of Rivers will meet Democratic Republic of the Congo's Motema Pembe at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

Rivers United boss Stanley Eguma has revealed what his team had to do to defeat former African champions ASEC Mimosas in their CAF Confederation Cup group fixture on Sunday.

The Port Harcourt club recovered from a setback they had suffered in their opening group fixture, a week ago, to defeat the Ivorian giants 3-0 on Sunday, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Goals from Malachi Ohawuma, Ukeme Williams and Denis Ndasi in either half, were enough to give Rivers United maximum points in their second Group B game.

Reacting to the game, Eguma reaveled that his side not only had to learn from their first defeat, but had to learn to be patient against Mimosas.

"It was a good game and I commend our opponents, they did well. ASEC is a big team, they are former African champions and being in the same group meant we had a strong opponent," he said.

"After what happened in Congo, we fashioned another strategy to be able to nick a victory. When the game started, we had the upper hand and when we scored they took over. They had more possession and played a compact game.

"In the first half, we studied the way they played and in the second half we found a way to stop them and increase our tally. We absorbed the pressure and went on the counter, we almost got the 4th goal in the process, so it was a planned arrangement

"We were looking for a victory, that is important and then, goals. I commend the players and management for their preparations," he added.

Rivers United to take on Motema Pembe next

With three points after the win, Rivers United are now ranked second in Group B, after the other game between Diables Noirs and Motema Pembe ended in a goalless draw.
