Reprieve for aspirants as High Court greenlights FKF elections

The Kitui High Court has given the greenlight to FKF county elections after the exercise had been halted pending an hearing.

The Kitui High Court has given the go-ahead for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch elections set to take place on Thursday, November 14.

The branch elections are a critical step leading up to the FKF's national elections scheduled for December 7, which will see a fiercely competitive race for leadership positions.

Originally slated for November 9, the branch elections were delayed when the Kitui High Court issued a halt following a lawsuit by the Kenya Football Association (KFA).

The KFA's suit challenged FKF's authority to oversee the elections, asserting that the KFA was the rightful body to conduct football elections in Kenya.

A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, after which the court ruled in favour of FKF, declaring it inadmissible to stay the proceedings further.

Following this ruling, the FKF electoral board swiftly announced that the branch elections would proceed as planned on November 14.

This decision sets the stage for the December 7 national elections, which have already attracted a diverse field of high-profile candidates eager to take the reigns of FKF.

The lineup for the FKF's top leadership race includes outgoing FKF Vice President Doris Petra, former Gor Mahia player and Kenyan international Sammy “Kempes” Owino, ex-FKF CEO Barry Otieno, CEO of Extreme Sports Hussein Mohammed, Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula, Sports Administrator Tom Alila, FKF National Executive Committee member Chris Amimo, and Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla.
