Vipers SC head coach Alex Isabirye has stepped down from his role, over a month since guiding the club to its first ever domestic double, Pulse Sports Uganda understands.
While the club is yet to make an official statement, the tactician last stepped at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende on Thursday, and allegedly tended in his ‘goodbye’ to the players and the rest of the technical staff.
A player that preferred anonymity attested to this before adding; “previous trainings have been under the new assistant (Lukusa Kayembe Raoul).
Efforts to reach the club and Isabirye for a comment about the matter were futile, as calls to the CEO and the former, respectively went unanswered.
It is still unclear why the celebrated winner chose against continuing, but word in the corridor has imitated he felt his power as head coach was being limited, especially in regards with the incomings.
Vipers has signed four players, including two Brazilians Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez (33) and 32 year-old Luiz Otavio Santos de Araujo alias Tinga. Others are Richard Matovu and David Bagoole.
Isabirye came to stabilize proceedings at the club in March after succeeding the troubled Spanish coach, Beto Bianchi Pellister.
He inherited a struggling squad that had endured a two-month winless streak and nine games without scoring, but delivered both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup.
While an exit is all but confirmed, the coach has previously dismissed speculation of leaving and emphasized his commitment to preparing the team for the upcoming season.
"There are so many rumours going around that I have left the job, resigned, this and that," he told the team, in a video footage released by the club.
"That's their (reporters) job, because if they don't do that, where will they get money for feeding their kids," he mocked.
"So, let's concentrate here, let's work, let's do the job," Isabirye rallied his charges.
As the coach was awarded the Uganda Premier League Coach of the Season, he expressed his intentions for the upcoming campaign.
"I also know people expect a lot this coming season, so we shall sit with management and set targets," Isabirye affirmed.
"We hope to reinforce the team more, even in the technical area, to compete better on the continent."
"I have never talked to anyone about when I am leaving the club," Isabirye stated. "I have a two-year contract, and I am busy preparing my players."
It is not certain who the next man for the job will be, but all pointers indicate the club will go foreign, like they have done in most recent years.
