However, the Eagles have slapped a £40 million price tag on the in-form forward, making negotiations far from straightforward.

Mateta’s red-hot form puts Manchester United on alert

Mateta has been one of the Premier League’s most clinical strikers in 2025, netting eight goals since the turn of the year, as many as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

With 15 goals across all competitions, including 12 in the league this season, the Frenchman has emerged as a key target for Manchester United, who are searching for attacking reinforcements.

Reports from L’Équipe suggest that United have already initiated talks with Palace regarding a potential transfer.

The Red Devils are keen to bolster their frontline, particularly with Rasmus Højlund struggling with injuries and inconsistency.

However, Crystal Palace are not willing to sell on the cheap, demanding a £40 million fee to part ways with their top scorer.

Mateta made Man United pay for their errors.

Mateta is currently sidelined after suffering an injury from a challenge by Liam Roberts, ruling him out of Palace’s game against Ipswich Town.

However, the club remains hopeful that he will return for their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Fulham at the end of the month.

Manchester United hope that the Frenchman could transform their attack and, if a deal is struck, bring much-needed firepower to Old Trafford next season.
