The English FA are said to be ambitious in their bid for a replacement if Gareth Southgate leaves as they have Manchester City's Guardiola on their shortlist.
The English Football Association is reportedly eyeing Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as a possible replacement for Gareth Southgate, who could leave his role as coach of the national team after Euro 2024.
Southgate took the job in 2016 and has led England to the Euros final as well as the World Cup semi-final. He is currently under contract until December 2024, and although the FA is said to be satisfied with the work he is doing, he could call it quits with the Three Lions after next year's European Championships in Germany.

Pep eyed for the role
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the FA are preparing for the possible exit of Southgate next year and are working on a shortlist of replacements.
Per the report, former Barcelona boss Guardiola is high on this list, and the English football leadership will make an attempt to convince him to switch from the day-to-day of club management to the relatively relaxed national team coaching.
Other than having to convince Pep, the FA is expected to face a hurdle with his Manchester City contract, as he is currently signed to them until 2025.
However, they are said to also have Chelsea's Mauricio Pochettino, Newcastle's Eddie Howe, and the currently out of job Graham Potter for the role.
