Edouard Mendy has reportedly been shown the door by Chelsea in a move to cut squad size.
Edouard Mendy has been reportedly told by Chelsea that he can leave, as the club prepares for a large-scale overhaul in the summer.
The Senegalese goalkeeper joined Chelsea from Rennes in the summer of 2020, and he replaced Kepa as number one, helping Chelsea to their second Champions League triumph.
However, he has lost the spot to Kepa this season, as poor form and injury on his part coincided with the resurgence of the Spaniard.
What was reported
The Daily Mirror reports that Mendy has been told he can leave as Chelsea prepare to cut down their large squad.
The 31-year-old's contract expires at the end of next season, and Chelsea are reported to want to ship him out earlier.
Mendy previously turned down a six-year-contract extension from Chelsea as the pay he was offered was reported as being lower than what Kepa, who deputised him at the time, was earning.
Mendy's status at Chelsea
Mendy previously displaced Kepa, who was signed for a record fee by Athletic Club.
The former Rennes man has been immense since claiming the number-one spot, and his joint record of nine clean sheets helped Chelsea to the 2020/21 Champions League title.
However, Mendy's form dipped at the start of the season, and following the World Cup, the Senegalese shot-stopper hurt himself and needed surgery.
He recently rejoined the squad, but Kepa has been solid since coming in, and he is expected to end the season as Chelsea's number one.
