Chelsea are searching for football clubs to buy as they look to adopt a multi-club model, and are said to have been offered Bordeaux.
Fresh off a large-scale acquisition of players in the January transfer window, Chelsea are reported to be in the market for football clubs to buy as they look to adopt a Manchester City Group-type model, and they are said to have been offered French side Bordeaux.
Chelsea want to buy clubs
With the increasing popularity of sports groups, Chelsea are said to be in the market to buy football clubs as they look to start their own group of clubs.
WebGirondis reported a revelation by journalist Romain Molina claiming that Chelsea are indeed in the market, and have been offered Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Chelsea, according to Molina, have focused their search for a club to buy in France and have had Bordeaux offered to them.
"Chelsea is looking for subsidiaries, mainly in France," Molina said.
“They have even been offered Bordeaux. It is not the only club that has been offered to them."
Multi-club model
Multi-club models are becoming increasingly popular, and more big club owners are starting to buy into them.
The model entails multiple football clubs run by the same ownership. There is usually an apex club as well as other smaller clubs spread across various leagues.
The Manchester City Group and the Red Bull Group are two of the most successfully run multi-club systems.
Manchester City Group contains Manchester City in the Premier League, Girona in LaLiga, New York City in the MLS, and Melbourne City in the A-League, among others. The Red Bull group contains Leipzig in the German Bundesliga, Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga, and the MLS’s New York Red Bulls among others.
