The Ikenne-based NPFL Club have started the journey to own a female club
The Chief Executive Officer of Remo Stars football club, Adedoyin Ogungbefun, has confirmed that the club will own a female club soon.
Ogungbefun confirmed to Pulse Sports Nigeria at the 2023 edition of the She Football conference in Lagos.
The She Football Conference is annual developmental initiative organised by the Ayisat Yusuf-Aromire Foundation to empower young female football players.
The theme of the conference is ‘Women’s Football Development Beyond Limits’.
Eight Female football clubs; DreamStar Ladies, Royaltoms Queens, Phoenix Queens, Lakeside Queens, Ijamido Queens, English Queens, Future Stars Queens, and Nakamura Queens will be competing in the SheFootball Cup on Saturday.
Remo Stars to launch female team
Speaking to Pulse Sports after the programme, Ogungbefun said that there are plans by the Ikenne side to have a female club set to start operation fully in 2024.
“Yes, there is plan for us to have a female team because we have plans for it already," he told Pulse Sports.
"Female clubs are not like male clubs, it is not an open-end thing, we can't just say we want to do open scouting because of the peculiarity of their nature, we are working on the club and by the grace of God next year we should have a female club.
He added that they partnered with the Sheconference to discover young girls that will be developed and norture to stardom.
“We partnered this conference to get players from the grassroots to give them time to develop."
Remo stars was founded in 2016 by Kunle Soname, they played in the Nigerian topflight league, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
