What is the nature of Vazquez’s injury?
The 33-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks.
“Following tests carried out on Lucas Vázquez today by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his left hamstring, meaning he will not be in the squad to travel to Manchester,” read a club statement. “His recovery will be assessed.”

Vazquez's absence is a further setback for Real Madrid, who are already without several key defenders.
Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are all currently out injured.
This leaves manager Carlo Ancelotti with limited options at the back, and the experienced manager may be forced to play midfielder Federico Valverde at right-back against City.

Man City vs Real Madrid
Real Madrid are already facing an uphill battle against City, one of the pre-tournament favourites to win the Champions League, although Pep Guardiola’s men have wobbled this season.
The Spanish side will need to overcome their injury problems if they are to progress to the round of 16.
The first leg of the knockout playoff round is on Tuesday, while the reverse fixture will be played eight days later on February 19 in Madrid.
