Bayern Munich came from a goal down to thrash Augsburg in the Bundesliga and maintain their grip in the title race.
Bayern Munich recorded a 5-3 win against Augsburg in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, March 11.
The Bundesliga champions were coming off their midweek victory against French champions Paris Saint Germain after they booted the Ligue 1 giants out of the Champions League.
However, it was the hosts who found themselves trailing in the opening five minutes after Mergim Berisha fired home for the visitors to open the scoring just two minutes into kick off.
But the hosts would respond in kind soon after Joao Cancelo fired home 13 minutes later to remind the visitors of who they were facing.
Augsburg’s memory would soon be refreshed further with Benjamin Pavard grabbing a brace to complete the comeback for his side before the 36th minute.
Pavard fired home in the 18th minute after latching on to a pass from Sadio Mane, before finding the back of the net again in the 35th minute.
The hosts continued to dominate possession and soon added a fourth in added time of the first period after Leroy Sane fired home to put Bayern 4-1 up heading into the break.
Second Half
Once again the visitors started brightly and soon managed to pull one goal back after they were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute, courtesy of a foul by Matthijs de Ligt.
Mergim Berisha would grab his brace, after firing home past Yan Sommer to give put the scores at 4-2.
But the host would still find cause to celebrate a fifth goal of the afternoon after Alphonso Davies fired home in the 74th to restore Bayern’s three-goal lead.
But the visitors remained steadfast and soon shortened the deficit once more in stoppage time after Irvine Cardona fired home for Augsburg’s third of the afternoon.
In what was largely an entertaining contest, Bayern secured yet another win taking a crucial step in the title race.
The win for Bayern now sees them go three points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund who face Schalke 04 later this evening.
