Flying Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick is reported to now be attracting interest from major European clubs following his performance at the recently concluded Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
The defender was part of Nigeria's U-20 squad that defeated Tunisia 4-0 to finish with bronze at the 12-nation youth tournament in Egypt earlier this month.
Fredrick was one of the stand-out players in the U-20 AFCON.
European sides pursuing Fredrick for signature
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, European clubs are beginning to circle the Nigerian youngster in a bid to bring him into their fold.
Interested clubs so far include Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Belgian giants Anderlecht, and Danish side FC Midtjylland who were in the past, a great home for current Super Eagles players Paul Onuachu and Frank Onyeka.
"Nigerian 17-year old defender Benjamin Fredrick is now attracting interest around Europe as Anderlecht, RB Leipzig and Midtjylland are tracking him 🇳🇬 #transfers," Romano wrote on Friday to his 14.2m Twitter followers.
"Fredrick is now represented by CAA Base," he revealed.
Fredrick, teammates to turn attention to U-20 World Cup
In the meantime, Fredrick will hope to put up a better performance with Nigeria's Flying Eagles when the team head to the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
Nigeria are in Pot 3 of the U-20 World Cup ahead of the official draws slated for Friday, March 31 at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
