PSG's stars have said their goodbyes and paid their respects to outgoing superstar Lionel Messi led by Kylian Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has saluted teammate Lionel Messi, with the Argentine forward set to leave the club in the next few days.
Mbappe praises Messi as Argentine departs PSG
Messi and Mbappe shared a special relationship on the pitch in the two years that the pair spent together, with the duo combining for more goals than any other set of players in Ligue 1.
No player assisted a teammate more times than Messi’s 18 assists to Mbappe since the start of the 2021/22 season, while Mbappe also repaid the favour by setting up Messi eight times in the league in that period.
With Messi set to leave PSG soon after the club announced his departure, Mbappe paid his respects to arguably the greatest player to play the sport in a recent video where he acknowledged Messi’s greatness, saying, “Lionel Messi, 7 Ballon d’Ors, he’s there, he’s there.”
PSG stars say goodbye to Messi
Mbappe has not been the only PSG player to pay their respects to Messi as a long-time friend of the Argentine, Neymar, also posted an emotional message on Instagram with a caption that read, "Brother, it didn't turn out as we thought, but we tried everything. It was a pleasure to share two more years with you. Good luck in your new stage, and be happy. I love you."
PSG assistant captain Presnel Kimpembe also took to Instagram to pay homage to Messi, calling their time together in Paris “a pleasure” in his IG story.
Messi and PSG made a joint announcement of his departure from the club, but his next destination remains unknown as the Argentine appears torn between a move back to Spain with Barcelona and a lucrative adventure in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.
