PSG's desire to transform the club could cause them to say goodbye to Lionel Messi when his current deal expires at the end of the season

Paris Saint-Germain are resigned to losing Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi as the club looks to run more sustainably in the coming seasons.

Messi set to leave PSG according to reports

Messi’s current contract at PSG is set to expire at the end of this season, with speculation about where he will play next season still very uncertain.

The Argentine forward has been linked to a return to Barcelona, while his relationship with PSG fans grows more fractious, and it is being reported that PSG are now set to cut ties with Messi as they look to build a more sustainable club model.

Reports suggest that PSG now want to focus on having more French youngsters populate the team rather than big-name players like Messi and Neymar, who take up a large portion of the club’s finances on their wages alone.

In view of this, Les Parisiens have decided they will let Messi leave on a free transfer while looking to bring in more young talent.

Barcelona hoping to bring Messi back to Camp Nou

The news will come as gospel to Barcelona, who are keen on Messi’s return to Camp Nou, with the operation to bring the Blaugrana legend back to the club regarded as the major investment for the summer transfer window.

Despite both parties being interested in rekindling their love affair, the deal to bring back Messi will be a financial stretch for Barcelona who are in dire economic straits and have been involved in a never-ending battle with LaLiga to relax their financial regulations to allow them spend on transfers and renewals.

The current LaLiga leaders were unable to register midfield sensation Gavi as a first-team player despite agreeing to a deal with the teenager that would have come into effect but for the league’s intervention.

Barcelona could face a similar situation with Messi unless they manage to balance their books to LaLiga’s standard ahead of the summer transfer window.

To do that, the Catalan club might need to sell some first team players, and the club is believed to be willing to lose players like Raphinha and Ansu Fati in order to finance a deal to bring Messi to Camp Nou for a second spell at the club.
