PSG remove promotional video after Mbappe criticism

PSG have decided to respect Mbappe's wishes by taking down controversial video

Ligue 1 club, Paris Saint-Germain have removed a promotional video for their 2023/24 season tickets after Kylian Mbappe criticised the club for using a clip from an interview without seeking permission from him first.

Mbappe made a post on Instagram where he criticised his current club for using his image in the advertisement without taking permission from him, despite the fact that he has personal rights to his image and should have been consulted before the advert.

Mbappe was at variance with the direction of the campaign for people to renew their season tickets, and made that point clear with an Instagram post that he ended by saying that the club was named Paris Saint-Germain, not “Kylian Saint-Germain”. 

PSG looking to stave off more drama at the club, take down video

PSG responded to the criticism from their talisman by taking down the video in order to honour his request to respect his image rights. 

It is believed that the club does not want to get involved in more negative press or another scandal after suffering from off-pitch issues for most of the season.

The club has also struggled on the pitch as well, despite leading the Ligue 1 table. Les Parisiens have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and the Coupe de France much earlier than anticipated, and the Ligue 1 is the solace in an otherwise disappointing season. 

PSG have lost three of their last five games in all competitions, and tensions have grown with a mass exodus expected at the end of the season, led by coach Christophe Galtier. 

With the aforementioned issues, PSG management is unwilling to enter more drama with players in the squad, especially one that they have fought tooth and nail to keep. 

The video interestingly did not feature PSG’s other star forwards, Lionel Messi and Neymar, as the club anticipates their departures in the summer.
