Despite recent speculation linking PSG with a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Enrique reiterated his satisfaction with the current squad and the club’s shift toward a more measured approach in the transfer market.
Luis Enrique stresses squad strength and youth development
Speaking ahead of PSG’s French Cup clash against RC Lens, Enrique praised the team’s balance and depth.
“I am very happy with the squad,” the Spaniard said, adding. “The best approach during every transfer window is to stay attentive, but it’s difficult to improve our squad. We want to develop our young talents.”
The French champions, who in previous years made headlines with marquee signings like Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi, have pivoted toward a more sustainable model.
This strategy, combined with the departures of key players like Kylian Mbappé, Manuel Ugarte, and Danilo Pereira last season, marks a new chapter for the club.
Luis Enrique highlighted PSG’s massive overhaul last summer, which saw the arrival of over 10 players, as evidence of the club’s long-term planning, saying, “There’s no urgency or need at the moment. If there’s an opportunity to improve the squad, great, but we already have a very strong team.”
PSG eye record French Cup triumph amid key injuries
PSG will begin their campaign for a record 16th Coupe de France title against Lens, who currently sit seventh in Ligue 1.
While PSG leads the domestic league with a commanding 10-point advantage over Marseille, their Champions League performance has been less convincing.
With the competition set to resume next month, Enrique is focused on ensuring his squad is ready for the demanding schedule ahead.
The team faces some injury concerns, with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma sidelined due to a facial injury suffered in a recent win against Monaco. However, defender Nuno Mendes is expected to return to action after recovering from a thigh injury.
With PSG’s emphasis on youth development and long-term growth, fans may need to temper expectations for high-profile signings in the immediate future.
