Wakiso Giants failed to win for a fourth successive StarTimes Uganda Premier League, their worst run since May 2022, as they were beaten 2-1 by Maroons FC at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
The two sides played out an uninspiring goalless draw in October, but a lot has changed since then, especially with Wakiso Giants.
Ibrahim Kasule left the club, while they were also missing attacking midfielder Titus Ssematimba who is with the Uganda U20 team at the AFCON and forward Moses Aliro who is injured.
As a consequence, Luyinda is yet to find the attacking spark and dynamism that his team had in the first round. As they have scored only two goals in their last four league games.
Although the fact that they had won their only meeting at Kabaka Kyabaggu against Maroons may have given them hope of arresting their slump.
But it was apparent that they would struggle to break down the Prisons Warders with the game failing to find its full flow throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Luyinda made an instant change at the start of the second half, bringing on Mikidadi Ssenyonga for Marvin Mukiibi, and the substitution looked to give the Purple Sharks a bit of a spark.
But they found themselves chasing the game five minutes into the second half when Arinda’s header lobbed goalkeeper Samson Kiirya into the back of the net.
Wakiso tried to gain a foothold in the contest after going behind, but a lack of cutting edge in the final third continued to prove problematic, with the Maroons’ rearguard holding firm.
The hosts were dealt another blow with 20 minutes to go when Fredrick Nicholas Kigozi tapped in from the far post from a corner kick.
It took Wakiso only four minutes to give themselves a lifeline, with Aturinda making up for his earlier mistake with a header into the back of the net via the goalpost.
Wakiso’s response was symptomatic of their recent run, creating plenty of scoring opportunities, but failing to capitalize on them.
In the end, Maroons took their fifth victory of the season to move into ninth, above URA FC at the moment. Wakiso Giants suffered their fifth goal of the season, and remain fifth on the table.
Maroons hosts Arua Hill in Luzira on March 20, while Wakiso Giants travel to Lira to face Blacks Power on March 20, after their Stanbic Uganda Cup against Vipers SC.
