Former Premier League footballer ordered to pay significant monthly upkeep for children after lengthy legal dispute with ex-wife over paternity.

Amidst the glamour and fanfare of the football world former Ghana national team captain Asamoah Gyan has recently come into the spotlight for reasons other than his impressive career.

A legal dispute between Gyan and his ex-wife, Gifty, has culminated in a court order demanding the footballer to provide substantial monthly upkeep for their three children.

Gyan, who has had an illustrious career in football, playing for clubs like Sunderland, Udinese, and Rennes, had initially denied being the biological father of the three children.

However, a court-ordered DNA test proved otherwise, leading to the final verdict.

The 37-year-old has now been instructed to pay 25,000 Ghanaian cedis (approximately Ksh 317,310) per month for the children's welfare.

The court did not stop at the monthly upkeep; it further ordered Gyan to provide his ex-wife with a house in the UK, another home in Accra, a petrol station, and two cars.

These assets are a recognition of Gifty's non-cash contribution to the family, as she was primarily responsible for the children’s care while Gyan focused on his football career.

Gyan took to social media to respond to the public discourse surrounding the court ruling. In a cryptic message, he wrote, "If I have 10 points and I keep quiet because I'm mature, and you have 2 points and you are seeking public sympathy, then it's cool. You are very funny. This is deep, so think about it."

Gyan, who announced his retirement from football in June, has had a decorated career, representing Ghana in 109 games and scoring a national record 51 goals.

He is best remembered for his outstanding performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he was shortlisted for player of the tournament alongside Diego Forlan and Wesley Sneijder.

Despite the painful end to Ghana's journey in the tournament, Gyan's legacy on the field remains intact.
