Arsenal will have to do without star defender for 'several weeks'
Arsenal’s title challenge has received a major blow with the news that centre-back William Saliba is set to miss a few weeks of action.
Saliba suffers injury setback in Sporting CP loss
Saliba was taken off due to a suspected injury after only 21 minutes of Arsenal’s UEFA Europa League second-leg game against Sporting CP on Thursday, as the Gunners succumbed to a loss on penalties.
The extent of the injury has now been revealed by a report from L’Equipe which suggests that Saliba will be out of action for several weeks as he recovers from the back injury suffered in the Europa League.
Saliba to miss Arsenal and France matches
Saliba, who has been a linchpin in the Arsenal defence will be sorely missed as the season winds up to a close with the Gunners vying for their first Premier League title in almost two decades.
Saliba also suffers some personal heartbreak thanks to the injury since he will now have to withdraw from international duty having been initially selected for Didier Deschamps’ French team to play in the EURO 2024 qualifiers next week. Saliba will have to miss both of France’s games, and could be replaced in the squad by Chelsea’s Benoit Badiashille, or Monaco’s Axel Disasi.
