But, how did the players from each side acquit themselves at the hot Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Vipers SC edged a tightly contested Uganda Cup final, narrowly beating Police FC 1-0 to a third Cup in history.
But, how did the players from each side acquit themselves at the hot Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Vipers.
Fabien Mutombora - 06
Not troubled much by a Police side that didn't have a sustained spell of troubling the Vipers backline. Fumbled a cross in the first half but it went out. Saved well late on to deny Tonny Kiwalazi.
Ashraf Mandela - 05.5
Defensively sound for the entire 90 minutes, without troubling Police offensively. A decent show under the scorching sun.
Isa Mubiru - 05.5
Stood strong in defence but didn't have impact going forward. Did well to frustrate winger Dennis Kalanzi before the latter got hooked off.
Hillary Mukundane - 07
Never troubled, won every aerial duel and ground challenge that came his way. Keeps going strong.
Rogers Torach - 07
His pairing with Mukundane continues to grow with every match. Was strong in the air and got the ball out of defence well.
Siraje Ssentamu - 06
Reliable as ever. Did the donkey work pretty well, and frustrated a number of Police attacks.
Karim Watambala - 06
Didn't see a lot of the ball as most of it was in the air. The bumpy ground didn't do him any favors, but offered good energy.
Bright Anukani - 08
Crisp passing, always creating and constantly troubled the backline with his set pieces. Great delivery to set up Karisa.
Milton Karisa - 07
An ever-present threat for Vipers, who also offered great energy from the right wing. Great awareness to head in Anukani's corner.
Yunus Sentamu - 05.5
Not a lot of chances to try and stamp his name. Offered Mubiru with great cover as Police surged. Ran out of legs to be subbed off with 82 minutes played.
Abubakar Lawal - 05
One of the most quietest games from Lawal since his arrival at Vipers. Lacked service as the lone forward.
Substitutions:
Karim Ndugwa - 06
Great hold-up play after coming on for Lawal at halftime. Hard the Police backline working.
Martin Kizza - N/A
Nzau Lutumba - N/A
Coach: Alex Isabirye - 08
Great selection of a team that he demanded energy from. They did just as he needed. Not the most beautiful of displays but did enough to win the team's first ever double. History maker.
POLICE FC
Davis Mutebi - 05
Not a lot he could do for Karisa's goal. Not a lot to do until he saved well to deny Karim Ndugwa.
Joseph Ssentume - 06
A Captain's display from Ssentume. Strong and astute. Didn't put a foot wrong after the team conceded earlier on.
Tonny Kiwalazi - 06
A good day for Kiwalazi and nearly leveled the match with the game wearing on, but was denied by Mutombora.
Timothy Muwanguzi - 05
Neat and tidy on the ball like his old self. Passed the ball well, albeit, without influencing the game.
Samuel Kayongo - 06
Gold battle with the likes of Anukani and Watambala. Was unlucky to be on the losing end.
Emmanuel Mugume - 06
An energetic display from Mugume, passed the ball well, but should have scored in the first half after being set through by Herman Wasswa.
Martin Owalamu - 05
Decent on the ball, fought well with and without the ball, but didn't have impact for the Cops.
Dennis Kalanzi - 05
Great feat, decent fight in the fjed half, but was frustrated by Mubiru before getting a yellow for contesting referee Shamirah Nabadda.
Reagan Male - 05
Decent first half with the way he fought for every ball. He faded in the second half, before getting subbed off.
George Kiryowa - 05
Another who didn't lack effort on the hot evening, but the quality was a bit lacking as they succumbed to defeat.
Herman Wasswa - 06
Great first half where he set Mugume who should have scored. Had Torach and Mukundane working but struck a poor freekick with Police desperate for a goal.
Coach: Angelo Lonyesi - 07
You can't fault Lonyesi for anything really. Did well to go toe to toe against the Uganda Premier League champions. He should be a proud coach.
