Gabon striker Pierr-Emerick Aubamenyang explains what young players need to do to have a successful career.

Veteran Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has offered advise to young players that play for their respective national teams.

His words of wisdom come in the wake of his brace against Harambee Stars silencing a fully-packed Nyayo Stadium on Sunday in Nairobi, in the 2026 World Cup qualifier crunch clash.

As the 35-year-old threatened Stars' center back pairing of Johnstone Omurwa and Daniel Anyembe, Harambee Stars prodigies Mohammed Bajaber and William Lenkupae unsettled Gabon's wingbacks on the other end of the pitch.

In an interview with Cafonline, Aubameyang made a rallying call to the junior players to embrace the challenge and enjoy the opportunity offered to them by the coaches, using himself as a reference. He highlighted why 2012 was the turning point in his career, owing to Afric's premier biennial competition.

"The most important thing is to enjoy yourself, because it’s a golden opportunity. If I look at my career, it’s thanks to the AFCON that I was truly recognized on the world stage, especially with Gabon, and especially during the 2012 AFCON. Even though the ending was tough, it’s a memorable experience. It’s an incredible chance, especially when you’re young."

The former Arsenal striker maintained that there's room for error and that youngstars can make as many mistakes as possible since they are tailor-made for self-improvement.

"I think young players forget this opportunity. So I advise them to enjoy every moment and play their football because that’s how you grow. Mistakes are part of the game, but they help you improve. Of course, I’ll give technical advice, but that stays between us."

His words resonate with what Stars coach Benni McCarthy said about Bajaber as previously reported by Pulse Sports. "I met him (Bajaber) when we had the minicamp, with the local players, and he impressed me very much. I like players, who are brave and not afraid to make mistakes."

Aubameyang has played for 11 clubs including Dijon, Lille, Monaco, Saint Ettiene, Al-Qadsiah, Barcelona and Chelsea.
