An update over the renovation status of both Nyayo & Kasarani before the January 20th deadline, when Kenya will be required to submit the stadia for final inspection ahead of the 2024 CHAN.
With just 23 days to go before the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off, Kenya is ramping up efforts to complete renovations at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium.
These venues, crucial for the tournament scheduled to begin on February 1, 2025, also play a significant role in Kenya’s bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Initially, Kenya was expected to submit its stadia for inspection by December 31, 2024. However, an extension was granted, pushing the submission deadline to January 20, 2025.
In December, CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed strong confidence in the tournament, which Kenya is co-hosting with Uganda and Tanzania. He described the 2024 CHAN as poised to become a historic milestone for the competition.
"Very pleased, very impressed with the enormous progress," Motsepe stated. "Kenya is home, and I want to express my deep personal gratitude on behalf of the 54 nations whose football federations are members of CAF."
Motsepe further commended President William Ruto's dedication to the tournament, saying, "Huge credit to President William Ruto for the excellent work that he's been doing. I have total confidence in the commitments he has made to me and the 54 nations."
Former Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, together with current Sports CS Salim Mvurya, recently inspected the venues and reported significant advancements:
