Peter Olayinka scores in Slavia Prague's win as they extend their lead at the top of the league.
Peter Olayinka scores late to ease nerves, helping 10-man Slavia Prague beat FK Pardubice 2-0.
Slavia, the league leaders, travelled to Pardubice’s Arnosta Kostala stadium to face the basement club in their bid to extend their lead at the top of the Czech First League.
Olayinka scores late to seal win
Slavia Prague went ahead in the 19th minute of the game after a Pardubice player illegally handled the ball in the 18-yard area. The infringement met heavy protest from the Slavia players, but referee Jan Machalek waved play on until VAR flagged the incident.
The referee watched the replay and gave a penalty in favour of the home side. Vaclav Jurecka stepped up for the home side and finished confidently past Florin Nita in goal for the home side.
Slavia led from that point on and were looking to cruise to victory, until centre-back Aiham Ousou was given a red card late in the match, sending the game into a frenzy.
Olayinka stepped up for his team and eased nerves as he took a well-weighted pass into his stride and finished into the bottom right corner to seal the win for Slavia.
Nigerian centre-back Igoh Ogbu, who joined the club in the January transfer window, was an unused substitute for Slavia.
The win extends Slavia's lead at the top of the Czech First League to four points, while Pardubice remains at the bottom of the table.
Slavia to miss Olayinka’s goals
The Nigerian striker’s contract with the Czech giants expires at the end of the season, and as was his right to negotiate with other clubs in the winter transfer market, Olayinka has reached a pre-contract agreement with Serbian side Red Star Belgrade and will be a Red Star player from July 1st.
Olayinka has scored five goals in 11 games for Slavia and has scored 43 goals in his 173 games for them while assisting another 25.
