The former Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper has joined KCB FC as head coach bringing experience and ambition to lead the team to their first league title.

KCB FC appointed tactician Patrick 'Luwowo' Odhiambo as the new head coach on a one-year contract, effective July 15, ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

Odhiambo, who joins from Kakamega Homeboyz FC, replaces Bernard Mwalala, who has left the Bankers to pursue personal interests.

Here are five reasons why Patrick Odhiambo might be the key to leading KCB FC to their first-ever Kenya Premier League title.

1. Proven track record

Patrick Odhiambo brings a wealth of experience and success to KCB FC.

Having served in various coaching roles at multiple clubs, Odhiambo has a proven track record of transforming teams and achieving remarkable results.

During his time at Kakamega Homeboyz, he led the team to its first silverware in the 2022/2023 season by winning the FKF Cup.

This accomplishment demonstrates his ability to inspire and lead teams to victory, which could be crucial for KCB FC's quest for the league title.

2. Compliance with FKF directive

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) recently mandated that all FKF Premier League (FKFPL) head coaches must possess a CAF A or an equivalent "PRO or A" coaching license to be on the touchline.

Patrick Odhiambo not only meets but exceeds these requirements, holding CAF A, B, and C licenses.

His qualifications ensure that KCB FC is compliant with the latest regulations, allowing him to fully focus on strategic planning and game management without administrative distractions.

3. Tactical expertise and versatility

Patrick Odhiambo is known for his tactical acumen and versatility and his experience spans various roles, including Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions at Prisons FC, Western Stima, Muhoroni Youth, Sony Sugar, Chemilil Sugar, and Tanzania Premier League side Biashara United.

His diverse coaching background has equipped him with a deep understanding of different playing styles and tactical systems.

This knowledge will enable him to adapt KCB FC’s strategy to exploit opponents' weaknesses and maximize the team's strengths.

4. Strong leadership and team-building skills

Odhiambo’s leadership skills are well-documented as his ability to build cohesive and motivated teams has been a hallmark of his career.

In an interview with Standard, KCB patron Azu Ogola emphasized this when he said, “We are committed to establishing a strong team that will dominate the local scene and go beyond to regional competitions.

With the appointment of Patrick Odhiambo, we are confident that we will achieve greater milestones in the new season.”

His knack for fostering a winning mentality and unity among players will be vital for KCB FC as they aim for the top spot in the league.

5. Successful track record with player development

Throughout his career, Odhiambo has shown a keen eye for talent and player development.

His previous stints have seen him nurture young talents and help them reach their potential.

This will be particularly beneficial for KCB FC, which aims to strengthen its squad during the current transfer window.

His ability to identify and develop key players will be crucial in building a team capable of challenging for the league title.

The previous season saw KCB FC struggle in the league under Bernard Mwalala, despite a significant investment in the team.

However, with Odhiambo’s proven track record and the potential for new signings, there is renewed hope and optimism among the fans and club management.

Odhiambo’s leadership could be the missing piece that propels KCB FC to their first-ever Kenya Premier League title.
