The Super Falcons returned to Olympic football in a game against Brazil after a 16-year absence.

Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has commended the Super Falcons for their spirited display against Brazil in their opening match at the Paris Olympics.

The Nigerian team suffered a slim 1-0 defeat to Brazil but Victor Ikpeba believes the team showcased determination and resilience.

After a 16-year absence, Nigeria's Super Falcons returned to Olympic football, but their Paris 2024 campaign started poorly with a 1-0 loss, with the only goal coming in the first half from Gabriela Nunes Da Silva's powerful strike.

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year highlighted the team's strong performance in the first half, where they created several opportunities but poor finishing let them down.

"They had their moments in the first half, but unfortunately they didn't make the most of them," Ikpeba said per Complete Sports.

While acknowledging the need for improvement in the attacking third, Ikpeba emphasised the team's overall effort. "They probably lacked the quality in attack, but they have everything to be proud of," he added.

Looking ahead to the next match against Spain, Ikpeba expressed confidence in the Super Falcons' ability to bounce back.

"The Super Eagles must learn from how they fight for each other," he said, implying that the men's team could benefit from observing the women's fighting spirit.

The Super Falcons next task is against Spain in their second Group C match in Nantes on Sunday.
