Nigerian legend on Nigeria vs Brazil at Paris 2024
The Super Falcons, making their first appearance at the Olympics since 2008, face a difficult task in Paris 2024 as they've been drawn into a tough Group C alongside reigning world champions Spain, Brazil, and Japan.
And Azeez, a Nigerian beach soccer centurion, who recently moved to Bangladesh because of money, has caused a stir among fans with his shock team selection and formation for the mouthwatering clash with the Samba Girls.
'Ahead of my Super Falcons match against Brazil tomorrow[today], I love to see this set up, I wish Ashleigh (Plumptre) was available sha,' the Nigerian icon posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to his graphic illustrations, Azeez would love to see captain Rasheedat Ajibade deployed as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation, with Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala - who has often found herself on the bench in recent matches - handed a rare start up front.
Another interesting choice from the legend is Oshoala’s partner at centre forward with Chinwendu Ihezuo preferred to in-form PSG new catch, Jennifer Echegini, and Esther Okronkwo whose goal in the qualifiers helped Nigeria end a 16-year hiatus.
However, Azeez's team selection did not go down well with some fans, who took to social media to slam the 'unbalanced' line-up.
'Thank God Randy won't play this formation and lineup,' one supporter fumed.
Another fan wrote: 'Nawa... Playing Rasheedat Ajibade who's the team no.1 attacking threat as a wing-back is a big NO.. Randy won't even dare to try that. The Defensive job she does as a Winger is already enough. She should play her usual Right Wing role while also interchanging during game time.'
'Naaa it's not Giving, Not Balanced either. Ajibade on the Wings? Nope. And no Echegini?' a third fan questioned.
Despite the backlash, Azeez will be hoping his dream team can inspire the Super Falcons to victory over Brazil in their crucial Paris 2024 opener on Thursday evening.
