Micho made four changes to the team, handing a berth to Isma Mugulusi, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Timothy Awany and Richard Basangwa.

Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic finally has a voice to talk and space to breathe after Uganda revenged on Tanzania with a 1-0 win on Tuesday in the 2023 AFCON qualifier.

Rogers Mato came from the bench to fire in the lone winner after normal time to send Uganda third with four points, the same as their neighbour who is occupying the second and final slot. Algeria qualified after beating Niger in the other match.

“It was very hard,” Micho sighed with relief.

Micho’s decision to start Farouk Miya from the bench and later bring him alongside the goal scorer Mato, Fahad Bayo, Steven Mukwala and Travis Mutyaba finally paid off.

“We took a risk but at the end of the day, we got everything. I believe the tactical changes that we made worked with Miya and Mukwala coming with Bayo and Mutyaba

“I’m very happy that one boy who practically started to play for the national team rogers Mato, a product of our CHAN team scored the goal with Miya assisting like many times before,” he lauded the goal scorer.

The coach received a lot of stick before the back-to-back games because of his reserved approach but a little tweaking in Tuesday’s game gave him the result.
