'Our AFCON journey is far from over' - Why Sports CS Murkomen is not giving up of Harambee Stars just yet

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen believes there's still a lot at stake for Harambee Stars as far as their qualification for AFCON 2025 is concerned.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Harambee Stars not to lose hope of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following their losses to Cameroon.

Kenya suffered a 1-0 home defeat to the Indomitable Lions in Kampala on Monday, the loss coming after a 4-1 thrashing by the same opponent on Friday, which has seen Cameroon qualify for next year's tournament in Morocco with two games to spare, after garnering 10 points.

With Zimbabwe recording a 3-1 win over Namibia on Monday to move to second in the group with eight points, Kenya, who have four points, face an uphill battle as they will need to win their remaining two matches and hope for favours from elsewhere to seal qualification.

Murkomen, however, feels it is not the time to throw in the towel and has encouraged Engin Firat's men to keep hope alive.

"To @Harambee_Stars, we may have fallen 1-0 to Cameroon today (Monday), but our AFCON journey is far from over. There are many positives we can take from this match for our next game," Murkomen posted on social media.

"With 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses, there’s still much to fight for. On to the next tie in November, unbowed. Great effort here, guys."

Harambee Stars' fate will be known in November when they take on Zimbabwe away before a home match against Namibia.

They must win those two matches, which will take them to 10 points, and hope that Cameroon prevent Zimbabwe from winning their final qualification match to seal a place at the AFCON for the first time since the 2019 tournament.
