FKFPL Ouma delighted to derail KCB's title hopes following stalemate

Batoto ba Mungu extended their good run over KCB, avoiding defeat in nine of their 13 previous meetings.

Sofapaka head coach David Ouma has expressed pride as his young side held KCB to a 0-0 draw which dented the Bankers' slim hopes of fighting for the title this season.

A win for KCB would have put them eight points behind league leaders Tusker with four games to go. Failing to win against Batoto ba Mungu has surely ended their hopes of catching up with the Brewers.

“I would like to congratulate my players for avoiding defeat yet again because the reality of the matter is that we have been beating KCB,” an enthusiastic Ouma said.

"They came to win the game but we contained them. At one point KCB were gunning for the title and we were able to contain them.”

The former Harambee Starlets tactician explained how he was able to stop Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno’s charges from winning the game.

“I needed to control them in the wider areas because they were trying to spread the ball to the wings to bring in cross balls and we did it properly.

“After controlling them well for the first 15 minutes, we then got a set piece and a corner and if we had taken advantage of them, the story would have been different. I also must praise my keeper Kevin Omondi for keeping us in the game with two fantastic saves.”

Ouma also praised his players for playing much better after sufficient time to rest since their 3-0 thumping at the hands of Kenya Police FC last Wednesday.

“We played Kariobangi Sharks then Kenya Police in the space of 48 hours. My players were fatigued and not ready to control them (Police). However, my players were up to the plate (against KCB) and controlled them.”

Sofapaka now have 35 points after 30 games played. They will play Posta Rangers this weekend as they attempt to achieve 40-plus points.
