Among the notable entries, Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala continues to fly the flag for Africa. However, her compatriots Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie missed out on the list this year amidst fierce competition for spots among the world’s elite players.
Asisat Oshoala shines in Top 100 list again
Oshoala, already a veteran of African football, maintains her place in the prestigious ranking for the eighth consecutive year, coming in at No. 70.
The Nigerian forward embarked on a new chapter in her career in 2024, swapping Barcelona for Bay FC in the NWSL, but maintained a high level of performance, keeping her place in the top 100.
Despite the challenges of adapting to a new league, Oshoala made an instant impact. She scored six goals for Barcelona in the first half of the season and added seven more for Bay FC after her mid-season transfer.
Her partnership with fellow African star Racheal Kundananji proved particularly lethal, reminding the world that she is one of the most dangerous forwards in world football.
Notable absence of Ajibade and Nnadozie
While Oshoala’s exploits secured her place on the list, two other Nigerian stars—Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie—missed out in 2024.
Ajibade, a dynamic forward for Atlético Madrid, and Nnadozie, a commanding presence in goal for Paris FC, both delivered solid performances but fell short of making the cut this year.
There was no space for the Nigerian stars in the competitive list, which was headlined by players like Spain’s Aitana Bonmati and Norway’s Caroline Graham Hansen, who dominated the top spots.
As Oshoala continues to set the standard for African players, stars like Ajibade, Nnadozie, and the next generation of Super Falcons’ stars will be hoping to follow her lead and break into the global elite.
