The former SC Villa player has won 16 trophies for Mamelodi Sundowns, seven Premier Soccer League titles, three Nedbank Cups, two Telkom Knockouts, one CAF Champions League, African Football League, CAF Super Cup, and MTN8 apiece.

Mamelodi Sundowns will not renew veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango’s contract beyond the 2023/24 season according to reports.

This will bring an end to what has been a magnificent era for the former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain with Brazilians.

Since the arrival of Ronwen Williams in 2022 from SuperSport United, Onyango has been used as second fiddle.

“Onyango has done really well for Mamelodi, but let’s be honest, age is no longer on his side. He’ll be turning 39 in May,” a source told The Citizen.

“With Ricardo Gross, who is on loan at SuperSport United doing so well, he’ll come back and become Ronwen Williams’ understudy.”

“And remember, Sundowns also have Rayaad Pieterse so they’re covered in the goalkeeping department.”

With all the above in prospect, there is also a possibility of the 38-year-old announcing his retirement from professional football soon after hanging his international gloves and boots in 2021.

Onyango has diligently served Masandawana since 2011 that’s a whopping 13 years.

Throughout this period he won several trophies with the Bafana ba Style and a host of individual honours.

The former SC Villa player has won 16 trophies for Mamelodi Sundowns, seven Premier Soccer League titles, three Nedbank Cups, two Telkom Knockouts, one CAF Champions League, African Football League, CAF Super Cup, and MTN8 apiece.

The Ex-St George custodian is the most successful and decorated player in the history of the PSL with 10 trophies.
