The Blues loaned out the Serbia goalkeeper to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg this season.

Dorde Petrovic has promised to challenge Robert Sanchez for the number-one position once he returns to the club at the end of the season.

The Blues loaned out the Serbia goalkeeper to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg this season and has been a revelation for the Tod Boehly-owned team.

Petrovic became first-choice for Chelsea in the second half of last season after Sanchez suffered an injury but new chelsea coach Enzo Maresca relegated Petrovic to third choice after signing Filip Jorgensen from Villareal to provide cover for Sanchez.

The Serb was eventually sent out on loan to gain more experience and become polished.

He has made three appearances so far and was man of the match as Strasbourg condemned Olympic Marseille to their first loss of the season on Sunday.

"That's a goal, to become regular number one for Chelsea," he said. "It's one of the best teams in the world and I hope it will happen".

The 24-year-old has three senior caps with Serbia after making just one appearance with the Under-21 side.

Chelsea signed Petrovic  in 2023 from New England Revolution after making 43 appearances.

It remains to be seen if Petrovic can live up to his billing with Blues already stocked with many goalkeepers. Chelsea also signed Mike Penders from Genk and remained with the club on loan for one more season.

Maresca has publicly defended Sanchez after some horror displays, the latest being against Brighton, something that was not witnessed when Petrovic guarded the Chelsea goal.
