Both Egypt and Morocco topped their groups.

The Olympic men’s football tournament has reached its quarter-final stage and two intriguing clashes promise excitement and drama.

Morocco, having topped Group A with a commanding 3-0 win over Iraq, will face the United States, while Egypt, unbeaten in Group C, will take on Paraguay.

Morocco vs. USA

Morocco’s journey to the knockout stages has been impressive, with Soufiane Rahimi leading the charge as the tournament's top scorer.

Rahimi’s consistent goal-scoring form will be crucial as Morocco battles the United States, who finished top of Group B after a decisive 3-0 victory over Guinea.

The USA have been prolific early on, with five of their seven goals coming in the first 35 minutes.

Their recent form suggests a strong start will be essential against a Moroccan side known for its defensive solidity and ability to make early impacts.

However, the USA’s recent struggles in Olympic football, including a disappointing Copa América campaign, heighten the pressure on Marko Mitrović’s squad to deliver a strong performance and restore national pride.

Egypt vs. Paraguay

In the other quarter-final, Egypt, who topped Group C with a narrow but resilient campaign, will face Paraguay, the runners-up from Group D.

Egypt has demonstrated defensive prowess, with only France and Japan boasting better records, and will look to extend their unbeaten streak in U23 regular-time matches since July 2021.

Rogério Micale’s squad, led by standout Ibrahim Adel, who scored twice in a vital win over Spain, will be eager to advance to their first semi-final since 1964.

On the other hand, Paraguay, despite defensive vulnerabilities evidenced by their seven goals conceded in the group stage, showed resilience with a strong finish.

Marcelo Fernández, who has been in scoring form, will be key for Carlos Jara Saguier’s team as they aim to replicate their 2004 final run.

Both matches promise to be thrilling, with Morocco and Egypt seeking to continue their impressive campaigns while the USA and Paraguay look to overcome past disappointments and make their mark on the tournament.
